Quiet around here lately 'cause I've been hanging out with humans, not computers.
The centerpiece of the LA trip for me was attending EconSM. Unfortunately, I though the conference was EconS&M and so I was dressed completely inappropriately. (bada boom!) As a business requirement I attend way more industry conferences than I'd like, or that's even interesting. But this event was a good one and focused solidly on something I care deeply about: The nexus of technology and human creativity and community. Lots of badass entrepreneurs and the brains behind companies like SixApart (which hosts this blog), MySpace, Bebo, NetVibes, etc etc. It was worth the price of admission to catch up with former colleagues, including the brains behind VodPod, and to listen to Esther Dyson.
My dear folks are in town and so Friday we toke them to Salty's, which I'd never been to, and I can say with authority that it has a great view, but otherwise: meh.
Saturday night brought the new Girl Trouble Burlesque show, Undercover, and it was without question the best yet from these fantastically talented women. I'll be shilling for these fine friends in the weeks to come because there are only two more intimate shows on the calendar and you, yes YOU, need to attend.
What else? Oh, I bought a new BBQ today; it'll soon be high season at Chez Mark and Dia!
Tomorrow brings a 17 hour day trip to Los Angeles.
See you soon.
