Ahhhh! A gorgeous three day weekend draws to a close. Despite vague desires to be sociable, the weekend was spent largely in seclusion, having a wonderful time with Ms. Dia. Saturday! If you live in Seattle then you know that Saturday was the most beautiful day of the year. And it occurred on a weekend. That's almost unheard of.
Saturday was spent taming our backyard and I am pleased to report that much progress was made. Next weekend our goal is to blanket the cardboard covering our yard with inches of mulch which next spring will provide the backbone for the garden we are planning. We filled the beds that line our deck with new plants and transplanted ones and planted actual vegetables in the raised bed I built last summer. A long time ago we were quite the gardeners and we're working to reclaim that. So we now have healthy looking tomatoes, beans, and squash plants. And plenty of herbs. We never fell off the herb garden bandwagon.
The rest of the weekend has involved lounging and seasonal chores and was filled with seasonal firsts. The barbeque, likely facing its final summer, has been seasoned and I'm currently tending the first ribs of the season, which are nicely bathing in hickory smoke. Breakfast on Saturday was our first al fresco dining on the deck of the year and followed our first visit of the year to the UDistrict Farmers' Market.
All in all a delightful weekend that's nicely set the tone for what I expect to be an exceptional summer. Yay!
