I thoroughly enjoyed Brian's reading last from This is Burning Man and the mini film fest that occured afterwards, narrated by Chicken John. Mark and Rob showed up for the reading and Lara joined us later. Yay!
Appropriately enough I finished the book this morning in the desert, reading the last few pages before I jumped in a cab to my hotel and this tech conference thingy I'm apeaking at. The book is damn good. Really good. He does a superb job of crystalizing key aspects of Burning Man noting, for example, that one reason the place feels so sexy and sexually charged is that that what happens when you have thousands of people who are really really happy, exuding self confidence. There are scores of other observations that just nail it from my point of view.
The archival videos were really wonderful to see. I missed the era of blowing shit up, but finally seeing images of those days makes me understand the allure.
And I'm going to make a point to see Chicken John when he returns to Seattle in October with his Odeon Bar Radio Show.
